The Plant: Graviola
Graviola (Annona muricata), commonly known as graviola, was one of the first fruits from tropical America discovered by Spanish explorers and introduced across global tropical regions. References date back to the 16th century in the Antilles and pre-Columbian cultures along the Peruvian coast.
It was introduced to Brazil by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Graviola grows as a shrub with glossy dark green leaves and large yellowish flowers. The fruit is renowned not only for its unique tropical flavor but also for its rich nutrient profile.
