The Plant: Papaya
Papaya (Carica papaya) originates from Central America and is cultivated extensively across tropical and subtropical regions. Known by various regional names—papaya in Mexico, bomb-fruit in Cuba, or mamão in Brazil—the fruit is available year-round.
When consumed fresh, papaya pulp is a rich nutritional source containing essential mineral salts (calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, and potassium) and high concentrations of vitamins A and C. It naturally contains papain, a proteolytic enzyme that assists in natural skin renewal. In skin care, papaya pulp moisturizes, soothes, unclogs pores, and balances oily skin types while evening out skin tone.
