The Plant: The Powerful Pear
The pear is the fruit of the pear tree (genus Pyrus, Rosaceae family), one of the most important fruits of temperate regions. Originating in Asia (probably China), it was introduced to Europe by the Romans and valued for its medicinal properties for thousands of years, with archaeological evidence showing cultivation as early as 3000 BC.
Pear pulp contains notable levels of vitamins B1, B2, and B3 (niacin) that regulate nerve function and skin barrier health, along with pro-vitamin A and mineral salts like potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, silicon, iron, and copper. It features polyphenolic antioxidants (lutein, zeaxanthin, gallic, ellagic, and chlorogenic acids) that protect skin and hair from oxidative aging.
